As art can imitate life, Lego figures can do so in much the same way. Arguably, this is the whole point of Brick Yourself, it is Lego art imitating life in a very unique and inimitable style. The Lego company is also following suit with its new Lego modern family.

Announced at the Nuremberg Toy Fair was the Lego family including stay at home ‘hipster dad’, Lego baby and Lego mother with baby bottle. These new figures are an attempt by Lego to keep to date, ahead of the curve so to speak. The Lego company is very conscious of the world around them and the continued efforts by the Danish toy company to stay in tune with the times are producing some interesting results.

President of Lego systems Soren Laursen disclosed the ideology behind the move to Fortune saying that “We aren’t responding to demand from anyone. We are trying to portray the world around us and listen to our consumer base.”

Art after all is about recapturing the world around us, it’s about expressing ourselves in a way that provides insight and meaning and helps us make sense of things from a different perspective. In this way, the Lego company is to be praised for continuing to design and produce art, to continue to stay away from the commercial profiteering side of manufacturing and production. At Brick Yourself, we believe that the whole world can be represented in Lego, and Lego is certainly making this process more possible. It’s an exciting time to be a Lego artist.
